A New Beginning

Celebration and commemoration at Historic Zapata Park

Valley Courier, September  26, 2023

"A celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and commemoration of the Maestas Case was held at Historic Zapata Park on Saturday night, and the event was a feast in every way. The car show concluded with a poetry reading of “Wheels of Justice” followed by the “Maestas Case Cruise” where cars proceeded down Ross Avenue – the same route that Hispanic students used to have to walk to school – to Historic Zapata Park, where the “Mexican” school once stood."

Excerpt from the Latino Community Foundation Newsletter

Latino Community Foundation, April 2020

"Philanthropists of the Year, Jamie and Cristalray Dominguez of Alamosa are the ultimate on-the-ground, grassroots leaders who impact real change in underserved communities. Not only prominent small business owners in the San Luis Valley, this power couple works tirelessly to organize, create volunteer opportunities, challenge existing systems and give directly from their financial resources. Their work includes gratification projects, youth classes on nutrition basics, middle school suicide prevention, and toy donations.

LCFC was proud to present the Philanthropists of the Year award to Jamie and Cristalray on March 4. The duo responded: “We went from engaging in the community, to giving back, to addressing public issues to being involved in systemic change. It all just evolved. Little did we know that was referred to as philanthropy.”
