Cooking Away With Mama Ray

Empowering youth to create positive change.

Cooking Away with Mama Ray is a program that teaches young people from  ages 14-19 how to cook simple and affordable meals with the food that they already have in the house while learning and practicing leadership skills. Youth will become more empowered to creating positive change in their own lives and in their communities.

The class teaches basic cooking skills, how to shop for groceries and how to prepare a basic meal that is both affordable and nutritious. After meals are prepared the groups sits down to eat together while discussing in open conversations, the youth perspective of what might be missing in their communities, schools and homes. The ultimate goal is to teach youth both how to cook affordable meals and also how to utilize resources within their communities to have positive impacts for themselves and others.
